Cardinal Men's Soccer Earns Ethics Award

The 2011 Plattsburgh State men’s soccer team has earned the Team Ethics Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Eight men’s squads across the nation, received either the Gold, Silver or Bronze version of the Team Ethics Award. The award recognizes teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the Laws of the Game, as reflected by the number of yellow caution cards or red ejection cards they are shown by referees throughout the season.

Coach Chris Waterbury’s Cardinal squad was one of five mens' teams to earn the Bronze Award, which is presented to teams that receive no red cards and a maximum of 10 yellows.

Plattsburgh finished the year with a 13-5-2 overall record and had only nine yellow cards called on them in the 2011 season. The Cardinals posted a 4-3-2 record in the SUNYAC and made its 14 straight post-season appearance in the team-tournament format. They defeated Potsdam in the first round before falling to eventual SUNYAC Champion and NCAA final four contender Oneonta in the conference semifinals.
