Mort and Bowling Lead Teams to Two Conference Wins

The SUNYAC announced its men’s and women’s Soccer Athletes-of-the-Week on Monday afternoon.  This week's honors went to Geneseo and New Paltz.

Geneseo senior Ian Mort (Rochester, NY/McQuaid) earned SUNYAC Player of the Week honors after amassing eight points in a 2-0-0 week for the Knights. The senior had a foot in all five Geneseo scores with three goals and two assists in the opening weekend of SUNYAC competition. On Friday, Mort helped break a scoreless game with Fredonia as he picked up an assist at 50:10 before scoring an insurance goal 20 minutes later. The next day, Mort struck early against Buffalo State at the 3:00 mark from 10 yards out. He collected his second goal of the game seven minutes later on a flick header after a corner kick. Mort assisted on a give-and-go in the second half for the final 3-0 score. Geneseo is tied at the top of the league standings and will travel to New Paltz and Oneonta this weekend.

Beth Bowling (Islip, NY) connected on all three shots on goal she took over the weekend, leading the Hawks to a 2-0-0 start to the conference season, which puts them atop the league standings. She scored New Paltz's first goal in the 22nd minute against SUNY Cortland on Friday, which wound up being the game-winner in a 2-0 triumph. Bowling then netted a pair of markers on Saturday against SUNY Oswego, leading the Hawks to a 3-0 win. On the season, she has four goals and two assists as New Paltz improved to 6-2-1 overall. The Hawks will travel to Geneseo and Brockport this weekend.
