Fred Holloway Award Winner: Brockport's Brian Duffy recognized for achievement on and off the field

 

The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced the winner of the 2011 Fred Holloway Award. The award is given to the student-athlete with the highest grade point average on either the first or second all-conference team with a minimum of four semester completed.
 
Brockport senior Brian Duffy (Hilton, NY/Hilton) is the 2011 award recipient. Duffy is the first Brockport athletes to earn the Fred Holloway award that honors a former Cortland coach, since its inception in 1990.
 
Duffy started all 19 games at defense for the Golden Eagles as they completed the season with a record of 13-4-2. He was named first team All-SUNYAC for Brockport after leading the team in scoring with 15 points on seven goals and one assist. Brockport finished 8-1 in SUNYAC play and earned the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament before fall in the finals to champion Oneonta, 1-0.
 
The Golden Eagles made its third consecutive NCAA appearance, earning an at-large bid. Brockport posted a first round 1-0 victory over Manhattanville on a direct kick from 20 yards out by Duffy in the 86th minute. Brockport ended its season in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament playing Stevens Institute of Technology to a scoreless tie for regulation and both 10-minute overtime periods before the Ducks advanced with a 4-2 advantage in penalty kicks.

Off the playing field, Duffy majors in Computer Science major with a minor in Mathematics. He is a two-time member of the SUNYAC All-Academic team and member of the SUNYAC Commissioner’s list.
In 2010, he was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's Scholar All-East Region third team.
