SUNYAC outdoor track and field athletes recognized

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced its first 2017 Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week with three athletes from Cortland being honored.

Men's Outdoor Track & Field – Field Athlete of the Week - Mitch Couch, Cortland
(Sr., - Oneonta, N.Y.)
Couch recorded ECAC-qualifying performances in three events at the Monmouth University Season Opener meet. He finished second out of 30 in the hammer throw at 54.86 meters (180' 0") and eighth of 28 in the discus at 45.08 meters (147' 11") on Friday. On Saturday he was 10th of 35 in the shot put with a distance of 15.12 meters (49' 7.25"). He was the top Division III finisher in the hammer, second-best Division III performer in the discus, and third best in Division III in the shot put. Couch currently ranks second nationally in the hammer.

Men's Outdoor Track & Field – Track Athlete of the Week - Mitch Ryan, Cortland
(Sr., - Plattsburgh, N.Y.)
Ryan finished third overall, and second among Division III entries, out of 24 competitors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Monmouth University Season Opener meet. His time of 9:26.12 is an ECAC qualifier and currently ranks fifth nationally.

Women's Outdoor Track & Field – Track Athlete of the Week - Mary Baughman, Cortland
(Sr., - Rush, N.Y.)
Baughman finished first in the 10,000-meter run at the Monmouth University Season Opener meet with an ECAC-qualifying time of 37:44.50. She currently ranks second nationally in Division III in the event.
