Track athletes honored with SUNYAC weekly awards

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has named its athletes of the week for men's and women's track and field.

Men's Track and Field – Field Athlete of the Week - Jon Rogers, Brockport
(Sr., Throws - Averill Park, N.Y.)
Jon Rogers had a great meet on the men's side winning both the hammer throw and the shot put. Rogers reached a distance of 50.76 in the hammer throw and had a toss of 17.28 in the shot put event, which set a new facility record and currently ranks second in the nation. The Averill Park, N.Y. native also set a new facilities record in the discus throw, winning the event with a toss of 45.95-meters

Men's Track and Field – Track Athlete of the Week - Ben Griffin, Oswego
(Sr., - Sterling, N.Y.)
Griffin continued to impress after making an appearance at nationals during the indoor season by placing first (1:56.54) in the 800-meter run at the Geneseo Early Season Invitational. The senior also joined his teammates in the 4-by-400 meter relay to cross the line in first place with a time of 3:27.16. Wrapping up his day on the track, Griffin placed fifth in the 1500-meter run in a time of 4:07.12.

Women's Track and Field – Field Athlete of the Week - Alexa Wandy, Geneseo
(Senior, - LaGrangeville, N.Y.)
Wandy posted the nation's longest triple jump to win the event at the Geneseo Early Season Invitational on Sunday. She posted a jump of 41 feet, 8 3/4 inches (12.72m) to break a SUNYAC record that stood since 1998. 

Women's Track and Field – Track Athlete of the Week - Camille Wutz, Geneseo
(Jr., Sprints/Jumps - Elma, N.Y.)
Wutz earned a pair of individual event wins in the Geneseo Early Season Invite, taking first in the 100 meter and the long jump while running a leg of the first-place 4x100 relay team as well. The junior clocked a finishing time of 12.67 in the 100 meter and turned in a leap of 5.61 meters in the long jump, good for seventh in the nation. She contributed to Geneseo's 4x100 relay win that clocked in at 49.28 as well.
