SUNYAC releases weekly track & field honors

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced its Track and Field Athletes of the Week with just over two weeks left before the conference championship meet, May 5-6 at Cortland.

Men's Track & Field – Track Athlete of the Week - Jack Flood, Cortland
(Sr., - Blue Point, N.Y.)
Flood easily broke his own school record in the decathlon with his winning score of 7,021 points at the Kutztown University Mondschein Multi. He broke his previous school record of 6,686 points, set last season, and he also set meet and Kutztown facility records. The NCAA Division III indoor heptathlon champion last month, Flood recorded three ECAC-qualifying performances during the Kutztown meet. He cleared 2.06 meters (6' 9") in the high jump, ran the 110-meter hurdles in 14.96 seconds, and registered a distance of 6.70 meters (21' 11.75") in the long jump. Flood's high jump set a meet record. Flood currently ranks first nationally in Division III in the decathlon and seventh in the high jump.

Men's Track & Field – Track Athlete of the Week - Isaac Garcia-Cassani, Geneseo
(Jr., Distance - Holbrook, N.Y.)
Garcia-Cassani earned a first place finish in the 1,500m (3:44.72) against a field of predominantly Division I and II competitors at the Bucknell Invitational. Setting the top time in Division III this season, he also broke his own SUNYAC record in the process. He also ran a leg in Geneseo's program record-setting 4x800 relay team (7:40.43) that placed second at the Bucknell Invitational.

Women's Track & Field – Field Athlete of the Week - Camille Wutz, Geneseo
(Jr., Jumps - Elma, N.Y.)
Wutz won the long jump at the Brockport Golden Eagle Invitational on Friday with a leap of 6.13m (20-1 1/2) that is the top performance in Division III this season and the fifth-best in Division III history. Wutz also won the 100 with a 12.24 clocking that also ranks 26th in DIII this year. 

Women's Track & Field – Track Athlete of the Week - Dana Kupiec, Cortland
(Sr., - Salem, N.Y.)
Kupiec finished third out of 48 competitors, and was the best Division III performer, in the 400-meter hurdles at the Bucknell University Bison Outdoor Classic. Her time of 1:02.39 is an ECAC qualifier and currently ranks sixth nationally in Division III. Kupiec also ran a leg on Cortland's 4x100-meter relay team that finished in ninth place with an ECAC time of 48.40 seconds - a time that ranks 21st nationally - and she was part of the 4x400-meter relay team that finished 11th in 4:04.01 and missed ECAC standards by just a hundredth of a second.
