Bears Women's Hoops Coach Ruckh Chillin' 4 Charity

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The mercury in Potsdam reads 88 degrees and rising so conditions are perfect for Bears head women's basketball coach Tara Ruckh to participate in the Chillin' 4 Charity Challenge.

Former Bear, Canton native and current assistant women's basketball coach at Averett University, Katy Briedis '13 challenged Coach Ruckh recently. All challenged coaches have 48 hours to accept and the challenge. If a coach declines the challenge, they will donate $250 to the Kay Yow Fund. If they accept the challenge they are doused with a large bucket of ice water and donate $50 to the Fund.

Ruckh was excited to support a good cause, if not so excited to be soaked in ice-cold water.

"It's impressive how this challenge is sweeping the across the country and across all divisions," said a shivering Ruckh. " It's a fun challenge for a great foundation. Luckily it's a hot day and it feels good to cool off."

Ruckh passed the challenge on to SUNYAC rival Oswego State Coach Tracy Bruno and the clock is ticking.

The Kay Yow Fund is named for the former N.C. State women's basketball coach who lost her fight to breast cancer in 2009. The organization partners with the V Foundation and is committed to raising money for scientific research in order to fight women's cancers.
