SUNYAC selects Ice Hockey Athlete, Goalie and Rookie of the Week recipients

CORTLAND, N.Y.  The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected the recipients for the Men's Ice Hockey Athlete, Goalie and Rookie of the Week honors.

This week's Athlete of the Week has been awarded to Andrew Romano (Drexel Hill, PA) of Geneseo. While he didn't actually score any goals, the sophomore forward helped create them, recording five assists in an undefeated weekend for the Knights. Romano had a pair of assists in Geneseo's 5-2 SUNYAC victory over Potsdam. He finished the weekend strong by piling on another three assists as the Knights defeated conference rival, Plattsburgh, 4-1.

The top goaltending performance of the week in the conference belonged to Geneseo's Devin McDonald (Calgary, AB). The junior pulled out two conference victories this weekend, totaling 47 saves with a .940 save percentage leading the Knights to the top spot in the SUNYAC standings. McDonald recorded 22 saves and a .917 save percentage in their 5-2 win over Potsdam and another 25 saves with a .962 save percentage in their 4-1 victory over Plattsburgh.

Cortland forward, Michael Faliero (West Seneca, NY), was selected as the SUNYAC Men's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week. The Red Dragon freshman recorded four points on one goal and three assists, the firsts of his collegiate career, in two games as Cortland went 1-1 against Morrisville in SUNYAC action this weekend. He picked up an assist, which was his first career point, in Cortland's 4-3 loss Friday and topped that off Saturday by scoring his first career goal, which proved to be the game winner, as well as tallying two assists as the Red Dragons defeated the Mustangs, 5-2.
