Geneseo and Fredonia advance to the SUNYAC Finals

CORTLAND, N.Y.- The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's ice hockey final is set for Saturday night between the second seed Geneseo Knights and fifth seed Fredonia Blue Devils.  Geneseo advance to the final with a 5-2 win over Buffalo State. Fredonia comes into the final with a big upset of the one seed Oswego 3-1.

 Geneseo was led by two goals from their sophomore forward David Szmyd in the first period.  Buffalo State added a goal at the end of the first period to make it 2-1. The Knights answered right back with a goal just 16 seconds into the second period by Andrew Romano and added another goal just a couple minutes later with a shorthanded goal by Conlan Keenan to take a 4-1 lead. Geneseo never looked back and went on to win the game 5-2.  This is Geneseo second finals appearance in the last three years.

 Fredonia scored two late goals in the first period and never let Oswego back into the game. The Blue Devils first goal was scored by Josh Biasillo late in the first period and just 11 seconds later Jacob Haynes made it 2-0. Late in the second period, Kyle Jelinski netted the Blue Devils third goal of the game. Oswego added their only goal of the game in the third. Fredonia was also led by there 33-saves from goaltender Anton Rosen in the win.  Fredonia will play in the SUNYAC final for the first time since 2011.

 Fredonia and Geneseo will face off for the championship on Saturday night at Geneseo at 7 pm.
