GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo men's ice hockey team will travel to Hobart for the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament this Saturday, March 10. Face-off is set for 7:00 p.m.

The Knights earned an automatic bid to the tournament after winning the fifth State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title in program history with a 7-1 victory over Fredonia on Saturday in the tournament championship game at Wilson Ice Arena. It was the team's second conference title in the last three years after winning the 2016 crown while the squad also brought home championships in 2006, 2005 and 1986.

Geneseo (19-5-3) is making its sixth NCAA Division III Tournament appearance, including its third in five years.

The Knights defeated Salve Regina (R.I.), 7-1, and Williams (Mass.), 2-1, in a pair of home games to open the 2016 tournament before falling to eventual national champion Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 5-1, in a national semifinal game played at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Two years prior, the Knights turned an at-large bid into wns over Nichols (Mass.), 3-2, and Norwich (Vt.), 3-2, for the first two NCAA Tournament victories in program history. Playing in its first-ever national semifinal, Geneseo fell to eventual national champion St. Norbert (Wisc.), 6-2, in a game played in Lewiston, Maine.

Hobart (18-5-5) earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after defeating defending national champion Norwhich, 3-0, in the championship game of the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC), Saturday.

The winner will advance to play either Colby or the University of New England in a second-round contest on Saturday, March 17 at a time and site to be determined. The winner will advance to the NCAA Frozen Four, to be hosted in Lake Placid, N.Y. on March 23. The national championship game is slated for March 24.
