Weekly awards announced for men's ice hockey

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected its Athlete, Rookie, and Goalie of the Week for men's ice hockey. This week's Athlete of the Week is sophomore Zach Remers (Clarence, NY ) from Buffalo State, Goalie of the Week is the Freshman Lawson Fenton (Medina, N.Y ) from Plattsburgh, and Rookie of the Week goes to Rich McCartney (Hershey, Pa ) from Plattsburgh.

Remers tallied four points in a pair of wins over Neumann to open the New Year. The sophomore had a goal and two assists in Friday's 5-3 win and added another assist in a 3-0 victory on Saturday. 

Fenton earned Tournament MVP honors, leading Plattsburgh State to the W.B. Mason Winter Classic title with 54 saves and a .982 save percentage over the weekend. He posted his first career shutout as a collegiate goaltender on Friday, making 25 stops in a 5-0 win over Tufts University. In the championship game on Saturday, he turned aside 29 shots in a 4-1 triumph over Babson College. 

McCartney posted two points on two goals to helped Plattsburgh to two wins this weekend. He scored the eventual game-winning goal and added insurance with a second goal in Plattsburgh State's 4-1 triumph over Babson College in the championship game.McCartney leads the team and is tied for second in the conference in goals scored with 10.
