SUNYAC selects Ice Hockey Athlete and Goalie of the Week recipients

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected its Athlete and Goalie of the Week for men's ice hockey. This week's Athlete of the Week is senior Mitch Herlihey (Ottawa, Ont ) from Oswego and Goalie of the Week is the senior Ian Sylves (Sloan, NY ) from Buffalo State.

Herlihey led Oswego to a 5-1 victory over Cortland on Friday and a 3-3 tie at Utica on Saturday, collecting five points in the two games. In the win over Cortland, Herlihey notched two goals and assist.  Against Utica, Herlihey was crucial again. In the first period, he added an assist. Then, with less than 30 seconds left in the game and the Lakers down 3-2, Herlihey scored to force overtime. 

Sylves continued his stellar play recording his nation-leading fifth shutout of the season with 28 saves in a 3-0 win over Brockport on Saturday. He also had 30 saves in a 1-1 tie against  Geneseo on Friday. Sylves finished the weekend with a .983 save percentage and a 0.48 GAA. He is third in Division III this season with a .946 save percentage.
