Men's hockey weekly awards announced

CORTLAND, NY – The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected the recipients of the Men's Ice Hockey Athlete, Goalie and Rookie of the Week honors.

This week's Athlete of the Week has been awarded to Plattsburgh forward, Cam Owens (Wilmington, MA). The junior tallied six total points over the weekend; recording both one goal and two assists in their 4-1 victory over 2016 national champions Norwich and in their 4-2 win against Lawrence. The Cardinals won their sixth Great Northern Shootout Championship Tournament, Owens was named the tournament MVP, he currently leads Plattsburgh in points with thirteen and ranks second in the conference with eleven assists.

The top goaltending performance of the week in the conference belonged to Lawson Fenton (Medina, NY) of Plattsburgh. The freshman came up huge with 23 saves and a .958 save percentage on Friday in the Cardinals' 4-1 upset over defending national champions, Norwich, who are currently ranked seventh in the USCO.com poll. On Saturday Fenton racked up another 26 saves leaving him with 49 total saves and a .942 save percentage for the weekend.

Cortland forward, Scott Donahue (Commack, NY), was selected as the SUNYAC Men's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week. The freshman helped the Red Dragons win the Binghamton Devil Frozen Turkey Challenge over the weekend as they beat Framingham State, 6-2, and Amherst, 4-1. Coming into the weekend with one career collegiate goal, Donahue found the back of the net three times, including scoring twice in the tournament championship game against Amherst.
