SUNYAC selects Ice Hockey Athlete, Goalie, and Rookie of the Week recipients

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected its Athlete, Goalie, and Rookie of the Week for men's ice hockey. This weeks Athlete of the Week is sophmore Tyson Empey from Geneseo, Goalie of the Week is senior Brendan McMenimen from Potsdam, and Rookie of the Week is freshman Rich McCartney from Plattsburgh.  

Empey scored a career-high five points in the Knights 7-4 victory at Plattsburgh on Saturday as Geneseo clinched its eighth-straight postseason berth. Assisting the first three goals of the game, Empey notched two goals in the third period, including his ninth power-play tally of the season that is currently tied for first in Divison III. 

McMenimen had one of his best weekends of this season, guiding the Bears to a 1-0-1 record in SUNYAC play. In the two contests he posted a 1.92 goals-against-average and a .940 save percentage and totaled 63 saves. On Friday, McMenimen stopped 38 shots in a 1-1 draw with No. 8 Geneseo. Then on Saturday, he came up big with 25 saves for a 5-3 victory over Brockport. The win was the 17th of his career, giving him sole possession of seventh place on the program's all-time wins list.

McCartney scored three goals, two of which were on the power play, in a 1-1 week for the Cardinals. He tallied twice on Friday, helping Plattsburgh State down Brockport, 5-1. He then scored a power-play goal late in the third period against Geneseo during Saturdays game. For the year, McCartney ranks second in the SUNYAC in goals scored (14) and is tied for eighth in NCAA Division III in points per game among freshmen.
