Weekly awards announced for men's ice hockey

CORTLAND, NY – The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected the recipients of the Men's Ice Hockey Athlete, Goalie and Rookie of the Week honors.

This week's Athlete of the Week has been awarded to Oswego forward, Josh Zizek (St. Catharines, ON). The sophomore recorded an assist in the Lakers' 4-3 victory over Buffalo State on Friday. Saturday against Fredonia, Oswego was down 3-1 late in the third period, when Zizek scored two goals and added two assists in the final ten minutes of regulation to help the Lakers come from behind as they won 5-3. Zizek totaled five points on the weekend and leads his team with eleven on the season.

The top goaltending performance of the week in the conference belonged to Potsdam senior, Brendan McMenimen (Merrimack, MA). In a 3-1 victory over Plattsburgh on Saturday, McMenimen posted a .968 goals against average and racked up a total of thirty saves. McMenimen is currently 3-1-1 this season, with a 2.56 goals-against-average and ranks second in the SUNYAC with a .925 save percentage. As for the bears they are currently 5-1-1 on the season and that victory was their first win over the Cardinals since 2008. 

Geneseo forward, Dan Bosio (Brighton, MI), was selected as the SUNYAC Men's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week. The freshman recorded four points in the Knights' two 5-1 victories over Morrisville this weekend. Bosio recorded an assist both Friday and Saturday but it was his second game where he had his best performance of his young collegiate career as he notched two goals in just a 31-second span. The Knights are 7-1-0 this season and are currently ranked fourth in the USCHO.com poll.
