Geneseo Men's Lacrosse Falls to Amherst in the NCAA Tournament, 17-11

SALISBURY, M.D. - The SUNY Geneseo men's lacrosse team had their season come to an end on Saturday afternoon as they fell to Amherst in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, 17-11.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Amherst got off to a quick start with a goal 16 seconds into the game, and then extended their lead to 3-0 shortly after. Goals from William McCumiskey and Brady Sullivan later in the quarter cut the deficit to two goals, and the Knights headed into the second quarter down 4-2.
  • The Mammoths caught fire in the second quarter, dropping six unanswered goals before McCumiskey scored with 22 seconds left to give Geneseo some momentum heading into halftime.
  • McCumiskey continued to lead the Knights offense, and helped put together a big comeback in the third quarter with four more goals. Geneseo tallied seven goals in the quarter, cutting the score to 14-10 after a goal from Jack Helrigel with 12 seconds left.
  • The Knights were unable to keep the momentum going in the fourth quarter, and ultimately fell by a score of 17-11.


QUICK FACTS

  • McCumiskey put together his best game of the season, racking up eight points on six goals and two assists. Brady Sullivan chipped in four points on two goals and two assists.
  • Pav played all 60 minutes in goal and recorded 14 saves.
  • Geneseo finished the season with a record of 15-5, marking the most wins in a season in program history.
