Cortland Earns Three USILA Men's Lacrosse All-America Awards

Three members of the SUNY Cortland men's lacrosse team – senior attack Dante Yacavone (Homer), senior midfielder Troy Morris (Long Beach) and senior long-stick midfielder Justin Wainwright (Homer) – have been recognized as Division III honorable mention All-Americans for the 2023 season by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA). 
 
In addition, Morris and Wainwright have been selected to the North squad for the USILA North/South Senior All-Star Game, scheduled for Friday, May 26 at 4 p.m. at Cabrini University in Radnor, Pa. 
 
Yacavone is an honorable mention All-American for the third straight season. He led Cortland with 44 goals and 18 assists for 62 points in 18 starts, scoring three or more goals eight times. Yacavone closes his Red Dragon career with 147 goals and 93 assists for 240 points in 73 games. He ranks fourth at Cortland in career points and sixth in career goals. 
 
Morris totaled 34 goals and 16 assists for 50 points in 18 starts this spring, and in 76 career games he registered 101 goals and 41 assists for 142 points. Morris scored three or more goals six times this season, including five each versus Brockport in the regular season and Oswego in the SUNYAC semifinals. 
 
Wainwright registered 60 ground balls and a team-high 17 caused turnovers in 18 games this spring. He scooped up 10 ground balls in a game at Nazareth and six in a win at Plattsburgh. Wainwright played in 72 career games and posted totals of one goal, 10 assists (four this season) and 178 ground balls, and his 61 caused turnovers are the third-best at Cortland since 2009. 
 
Cortland finished the season with a 13-5 record. The Red Dragons placed second in the SUNYAC regular season with a 6-1 mark and advanced to the league tournament finals before losing at Geneseo.
