SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC releases its 2024 softball awards including the Julie Lenhart Co-Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Sandra Hollander Coaching Staff of the Year and the All-Conference teams. These awards are nominated and voted on by the conference coaches.
Julie Lenhart Co-Player of the Year - Gina Meyers, Cortland
Meyers had a .409 batting average in conference play with 27 hits including five triples, the most in the league, and two doubles. She had 20 runs, 13 RBI with just two strikeouts to help lead her team to the No. 2 seed after regular season play. Meyers finished the 2024 season with a .425 overall batting average which ranks second in the conference. She totaled 57 hits with seven triples and three doubles, 36 runs and 20 RBI. Meyers and the Red Dragons advanced to the SUNYAC championship game and finished the season 29-9 overall.
Julie Lenhart Co-Player of the Year - Delaney Haley, Oneonta
Haley led the league with 15 stolen bases in conference competition and 29 overall. She also was ranked No. 1 with 21 runs in conference play and 40 overall. Haley finished the season with a .471 batting average and .526 on base percentage over 18 conference games. Haley led her team to the No. 4 spot going into postseason play and was named to the All-Tournament team after the Red Dragons finished fourth in the tournament. Oneonta ended the 2024 season with a 22-17 overall record.
Defensive Player of the Year - Victoria Hussey, Oneonta
Hussey, the Red Dragons third baseman, finished the season with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 30 assists and 18 putouts in conference competition. She totaled 57 assists and 40 putouts with no errors over 36 games. Hussey also contributed 20 hits with seven doubles and 11 RBI overall.
Pitcher of the Year - Lindsay Roman, New Paltz
For the second year in a row, Roman has been named the SUNYAC Softball Pitcher of the Year. She led the SUNYAC with nine wins, four shutouts and a 0.74 earned run average in 66.1 innings pitched in conference play. So far this season, overall she pitched 150.2 innings with 17 wins, eight shutouts and a 1.02 earned run average. Roman totaled 34 strikeouts in league competition and 83 overall. She was named the SUNYAC Softball Tournament MVP after leading her team to its first-ever conference title. The Hawks will advance to their first NCAA Division III championship tournament in program history.
Rookie of the Year - Emily Brown, Oneonta
Brown played first base and totaled 82.1 innings on the mound in her first season with the Oneonta Red Dragons. Of the 82.1 innings pitched, 38.2 innings were conference competition where she recorded 5 wins with 42 strikeouts and had a 1.81 earned run average. Overall she totaled 10 wins with 89 strikeouts. At the plate in SUNYAC play, she totaled 17 hits, 11 RBI with three doubles and three triples.
Sandra Hollander Coaching Staff of the Year - New Paltz
Head Coach Krysti Maronski is in her sixth season as the head coach of the Hawks and is assisted by Rick Spriggs. New Paltz made history again in 2024 winning the program's first SUNYAC softball championship title as the No. 1 seed. New Paltz had six All-Conference team selections including the Pitcher of the Year. The Hawks are currently 35-6 going into their first appearance at the NCAA Division III softball tournament. The team will face MIT on Thursday, May 16 at 2:30 p.m.
