Gina Meyers Recognized as 2024 SUNYAC Softball Scholar Athlete of the Year

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC is honored to recognize Gina Meyers from Cortland as the 2024 Softball Scholar Athlete of the Year. This award is nominated and voted on by the conference sports information directors.

Meyers was named Third Team All-Region, First Team All-SUNYAC and was the 2024 SUNYAC Co-Player of the Year. This season, in 37 games, Meyers had a .425 batting average and totaled seven triples, three doubles, 20 RBI, 36 runs and 10 steals. Meyers led the Red Dragons in triples, steals and runs. She had a school-record 33-game hitting streak (hit safely in 36 of her 37 games); entering 2024 only three players in Division III history had longer hitting streaks. Over 134 career games, Meyers had a .375 batting average and 170 hits. She is tied for third at Cortland with 16 career triples and she is sixth with 42 career steals.

Meyers maintained a 3.36 undergraduate cumulative GPA with a major in childhood and early childhood education. She did her graduate work in teaching students with disabilities grades 1-6 and had a 3.86  GPA.

In order to be eligible for the SUNYAC Scholar Athlete of the Year award student-athletes must prove both academic and athletic excellence by obtaining a minimum 3.30 overall GPA, be a starter or significant reserve for their team, and be at least a sophomore. The SUNYAC Scholar Athlete Award began in 2016-17.
