Strouse and Cortright Earn First 2023-24 SUNYAC Wrestling Weekly Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The SUNYAC selects Liam Strouse from RIT and Utica's Trevor Cortright as its first-ever Men's Wrestler of the Week and Men's Wrestling Rookie of the Week respectively.

Strouse finished second at 165 lbs. to help RIT to a second-place finish at the Ned McGinley Invitational, Saturday. Strouse, the No. 6 seed, defeated Mariano Monacelli with a fall (1:22) in his opening match. He defeated Aaron Munford, 17-6 in his second match before a 6-0 win over No. 3 Matt Lucas in the quarterfinals. Strouse took down No. 2 Chris Stathopoulos (Stevens), 12-11 in the semifinals and lost 4-0 to No. 1 Harrison Hinojosa in the finals.

Cortright won the 133-pound weight class via fall over Jackson Whitcomb. After receiving a bye, Cortright won by tech fall over Mason Welch of St. John Fisher University (TF17-0) before winning by decision over Aj Orlando of Averett University in round two (Dec 11-4). He went on to win by fall over Whitcomb Lycoming College at 4:20.
