Torres and Vandenberg Take SUNYAC Men's Wrestling Weekly Awards

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC picks Isaias Torres from Ithaca College and the Men's Wrestler of the Week and Braydon Vandenberg from St. John Fisher University the Rookie of the Week.

Torres continued his strong season helping the Bombers claim first-place out of 20 teams at the NYS Championships as he was also crowned champion of the 133 lb. bracket. Torres' first place bout proved to be exciting as it was all squared up between him and Alfred's Zach Levey but Torres ended up sticking his opponent and came away with the 7-1 sudden victory. He ended up 3-0 on the afternoon as he also earned a 10-2 major decision over Buffalo's Cole French along with a semifinal 8-3 decision win over NYU's Taisei Kurachi.

The Cardinals went 3-1 this week in duals against Penn State Behrend, Hiram College, Waynesburg University and Case Western Reserve University. Vandenberg went 4-0 with three wins by pin fall and one by major decision in the 197 pound weight class. In his win against Penn State to start the week he pinned his opponent seconds into the second period. Against Hiram, Vandenberg took just 38 seconds to earn the victory by pin and he followed that with a win against Waynesburg with a pin in 2:31. His final match of the week was against Case Western and he earned an 11-2 major decision win.
