LiCastri and Vaughn Earn SUNYAC Men's Wrestling Weekly Awards

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The SUNYAC honors Oneonta's Carson LiCastri as this week's Men's Wrestler of the Week and RIT's Bryson Vaughn as the Rookie of the Week.

LiCastri did not drop a match this week and went 7-0 at 197 with five pins for Oneonta. In dual matches, he won a 14-4 major decision over Paul Parise of #25 nationally ranked Muhlenberg and pinned Gettysburg's Phil Nave (6:16) which secured the Red Dragons 25-22 win over the Bullets. He then went to the Will Abele Invitational at Ursinus College and won the 197-division. He entered the tournament as the three seed and cruised to the semifinal with three straight fall victories over Ursinus' Connor Fritsch (1:12), American International's Tom Caracciolo (1:41), and Keystone's Nero Bono (1:59). LiCastri advanced to the final off an 11-0 major decision over East Stroudsburg's Matt Richardson then beat the Warriors Ajay Hiller in the championship via pin at 2:16.

Vaughn won the 141 lb. weight class at the Will Abele Invitational, Saturday. fter a bye, top-seeded Vaughn defeated Andrew Minko with a 16-1 technical fall. He defeated Aaron Morocho with an 11-0 major decision in the quarter finals and defeated Josh Post 5-0 in the semifinals. Vaughn defeated Isaiah Shafer, 5-3 in the title match.
