
Cortland's Centrone and Futia Earn SUNYAC Men's Wrestling Weekly Honors
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC has selected Cortland teammates Angelo Centrone and Rocco Futia as this week's Wrestler of the Week and Rookie of the Week respectively.
Centrone, ranked fourth nationally in Div. III, was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Williams Open after posting a 4-0 record at 149 pounds. He opened with a "no contest" victory followed by a 19-3 technical fall of Plymouth St.'s Nick Antonucci. In the semifinals, Centrone pinned unattached wrestler Colin Carlin in 2:10 and captured the title with a fall in 2:21 against Peter Charnley of Western New England. For the season, Centrone has posted a 16-0 record with two pins, 10 technical falls and two major decisions.
Futia captured the 133-pound title at the Williams Open on Saturday with a 4-0 record. He opened with a pin in 1:30 of Elias Halal of Roger Williams. Futia followed with a 15-14 decision over Joseph Aldrich of AIC and advanced to the finals with a 4-2 decision versus Shaun McLaughlin of Roger Williams. He earned the title with a 3-1 decision over Chris Tringali of Roger Williams in the championship bout. For the season, Futia has posted a 19-6 record with three pins, seven technical falls and two majors.
