
Cortland Softball and Baseball Teams Earn Four CSC Academic All-District Honors

Cortland softball junior catcher/outfielder Lainie Ornstein (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown), sophomore pitcher/designated player Kim Westenberg (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) and sophomore shortstop Shannon Scotto (Putnam Valley/Lakeland), and baseball sophomore pitcher, Tommy Lynch (West Seneca/Canisius), have been named to the 2024 Division III Academic All-District team for District 3 in their respective sports.
The all-district teams are selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC). In Division III, District 3 encompasses all schools in New York State. Recipients must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically with a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average and meet certain requirements in terms of contests competed in and athletic accomplishments.
Ornstein is a physical education major who entered the spring semester with a 3.52 overall GPA. In 35 games she batted .375 with 10 walks, seven steals and 30 runs scored.
Westenberg is an adolescence education-biology major with a 3.93 GPA prior to the spring semester. A second-team All-SUNYAC selection, Westenberg finished 12-4 in the circle with two saves and a 1.45 ERA. She struck out 72 batters and walked only 13 in 111 innings. She also batted .448 with a homer, eight doubles and 15 RBI.
Scotto is a physical education major with a 3.59 overall GPA entering the spring semester. She earned first-team all-region and All-SUNYAC recognition after hitting .421 with eight doubles and 31 RBI.
Lynch is a physical education major with a 3.65 overall GPA prior to the spring. He was named to the ABCA Region 3 all-region team after finishing 4-0 with a save, a 3.71 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 26 and two thirds innings.
