POTSDAM, N.Y.—Four members of the SUNY Potsdam men's track and field teams and one member of the women's team have been named to the College Sports Communicators Cross Country/Track and Field Academic All-District Teams. Seniors Michael Anderson (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst), Josh Bifolchi (Ottawa, Ontario/Sir Robert Borden) and Timothy Petty (Highland, N.Y./Highland) and juniors Sam Renaud (Lagrangville, N.Y./Trinity-Pawling) and Emily Yousey (Lacona, N.Y./Sandy Creek) have each earned the honor.
To be eligible for a nomination, athletes need to maintain at least a 3.5 GPA, be a sophomore and rank in the top 50 in the region in at least one event.
Anderson of the track and field team ranked 46th in the Mideast Region in the indoor high jump with a height of 1.65m. He also reached a height of 1.65m in the same event outdoors, placing him 42nd in the region. Anderson is also a member of the Bears men's volleyball team, where he was named to the New England Volleyball Conference's Sportsmanship Team this season.
Bifolchi captured his fourth straight SUNYAC Javelin Title this spring with a distance of 53.50m. The effort places him 12th in the Mideast Region. He is the program record holder in the event. Bifolchi is also a member of the Bears men's hockey team.
Petty posted Mideast Region top-50 performances in eight events for the track and field team this season. He was 47th in the 110M hurdles (19.23), 46th in the outdoor high jump (1.62m), 35th in the outdoor pole vault (2.90m) and 10th in the decathlon (4911). Petty was also 44th in the 60M hurdles (9.96), 42nd in the indoor high jump (1.70m), 34th in the indoor pole vault (2.80m) and 10th in the heptathlon (3480). He is the program's record holder in the 60M hurdles (9.96), indoor pole vault (2.80m), heptathlon (3634), long jump (6.27m), outdoor pole vault (2.90m), and decathlon (4935). Petty was Academic All-District last season as well.
Renaud, who is a member of both the cross country and track and field teams, was 35th in the 400M (52.27) and 31st in the 800M (1:57.56) and helped the 4x400 and Distance Medley relay teams to top-50 finishes as well. He is the program record holder in the indoor 400M (52.04), indoor 600M (1:27.79), indoor 800M (1:58.22), indoor 1000M (2:38.59), outdoor 400M (51.43) and outdoor 800M (1:55.66). Renaud was also Academic All-District last Spring.
Yousey had three regional top-50 performances this season for the track and field team. She ranked 49th in the indoor 400M (1:03.17), 47th in the outdoor 400M (1:03.68) and 41st in the indoor 800M (2:26.12). Yousey also helped the Bears to top-50 finishes in the indoor 4x400M, indoor Distance Medley, outdoor 4x100M and outdoor 4x400M relay teams. She holds the program record in the indoor 400M (1:01.79), indoor 500M (1:24.54), indoor 600M (1:51.42), indoor 800M (2:24.91), outdoor 400M (56.99) and outdoor 800M (2:24.91). Yousey also claimed Academic All-District honors a year ago and is a member of the cross country team as well.
