
Montville, Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced their track and field academic awards on Monday afternoon and Brexton Montville (Cadyville, N.Y./Saranac), along with both the men's and women's track and field teams at Plattsburgh, was honored for their achievements on and off the track.
For athletes to be eligible, students must carry a GPA over 3.30 and meet one of the following athletic criteria listed by the USTFCCCA:
- Must have finished the indoor season among the top 50 individuals as listed on the descending order lists on TFRRS. In addition, any athletes not among the top 50, but who participated at the Indoor or Outdoor National Championships, are eligible.
- Must have competed as a member of one of the top 35 relay teams as listed on the indoor descending order list on TFRRS. In addition, any athletes not among the top 35 relay teams, but who participated in the relay at the Indoor or Outdoor National Championships, are eligible. Finally, any competing relay team member on an expanded descending order list to include 35 institutions (1 relay team per institution) is eligible.
Teams must carry a GPA of at least 3.1 to be eligible for the USTFCCCA All-Academic list.
The fifth-year Montville enjoyed a fantastic end to his collegiate career, as he ended the season with the 40th-best time in all of Division III in the outdoor 100-meter dash at 10.58 seconds. He achieved this time twice in the year, first at the Middlebury Outdoor Invitational, as he broke his program record in the event, and then next in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships, winning the conference championship in the event. Montville concluded his season in the 100-meter dash, placing fourth in the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships, with a mark of 10.87 seconds. On the season, he won four times in this event, finishing under 11 seconds in 12 of his 13 races. He also helped set the new program record in the 4x100 relay, anchoring the group as they achieved a 42.04-second mark. He was also named to the USTFCCCA Mideast All-Region team for his success in the outdoor season. In the indoor season, he finished third in the SUNYAC In the 60-meter dash and was 11th in the 200-meter dash.
Each team excelled in the classroom, with the men carrying a cumulative GPA of 3.28 and the women carrying a team cumulative GPA of 3.35.
The Plattsburgh State men's track and field team finished sixth at the SUNYAC Indoor Championships and fifth at the SUNYAC Outdoor Championships, while the women finished eighth in indoor and sixth in outdoor in the 2023-24 season.
