Cortland Sports Information Department
Mitchell Binda has been named assistant sports information director at SUNY Cortland for the 2024-25 school year, announced Cortland Sports Information Director Fran Elia. Binda will serve as the primary contact for the soccer, field hockey, ice hockey, wrestling, and lacrosse programs.
"We're extremely fortunate to have someone of Mitchell's caliber helping promote Cortland Athletics," said Elia. "He's done great work at Buffalo State and during his time as a Cortland student. He's a rising star in the industry."
Binda, a Cortland alumna, returns to Central New York after a three-year stint at SUNY Buffalo State University from 2021-24.
"I am ecstatic to be back at Cortland as assistant sports information director," Binda said. "I have fond memories of my time at Cortland as a student and intern, and I am excited to be part of publicizing our incredibly accomplished student-athletes, teams, and department in this school year and beyond."
For the last two school years, Binda served as assistant athletic director for communications at Buffalo State, after previously serving as athletic communications assistant at the University in the 2021-22 school year.
Binda oversaw communications efforts for each of Buffalo State's 20 intercollegiate athletic programs, including media efforts for the additions of men's volleyball, acrobatics & tumbling, and women's wrestling as varsity sports. He also managed game day operations and statistical track for all home contests.
During his time at Buffalo State, Binda developed and executed marketing campaigns for student-athletes, including four individual national championships, 14 All-America honors, and numerous regional, conference, and academic awards.
Binda graduated summa cum laude from Cortland in May of 2021 with a bachelor's degree in Sport Management and a concentration in Intercollegiate Administration & Governance.
While an undergraduate student at Cortland, he served as a student assistant in the sports information office for three years, performing live statistics duties and assisting with game day implementation and management for ten varsity programs.
He also completed an internship in the athletics communications office at Binghamton University in the Spring 2021 semester, creating pregame and post-game graphics, as well as highlight videos and assisting with stories for the department's website and social media accounts.
