New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz Student-Athlete Advisory Committee helped organize a community service event Friday and Saturday at the annual Elting Book Fair.
The Hawks showed up in droves as student-athletes from men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, men's volleyball, baseball and swimming, among several other student-athletes lent a hand organizing books, along with setting up and breaking down the annual event in town.
Student-athletes helped unload boxes of books, toys and puzzles, then organized each to help the event run smoothly. Not only did each team aid in the event, helping where they could, but also used the event as a team building opportunity.
"After everything was unloaded, we were able to take a free book and stack the now empty boxes and put them back in the shed, and after that we had a team dinner at Main Course," recalled women's lacrosse senior Francesca Corozzo.
Along with its annual community service events on the docket, SAAC is additionally holding Breast Cancer Awareness Games during the month of October to recognize and hopefully raise money toward the cause. Each fall team selected a home date where they will don pink ribbons/socks ect. to support all those who have dealt with the disease. They hope to continue holding Breast Cancer Awareness Games, alongside its "Green Out" for Mental Health Awareness Games for winter and spring sports as well.
