2025 Dr. Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup Standings After SUNYAC Winter Championships
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - After the completion of the 2025 SUNYAC winter championships, the top three institutions in Dr. Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup standings remain the same with Cortland at No. 1, New Paltz second followed by Oneonta.
The cup was named for Dr. Patrick R. Damore in 2012 when he retired as the SUNYAC Commissioner after serving in the position for 33 years. Damore passed away at the age of 90 on May 23, 2021.
Cortland took home seven SUNYAC titles this winter including men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's indoor track and field, men's and women's basketball and men's wrestling tied for first place. The Cortland Red Dragons men's ice hockey team finished the regular season No. 1 while the women's ice hockey team was third after regular season conference play.
New Paltz men's basketball was the top seed after regular season competition, while women's basketball was No. 2. The men's swimming and diving team finished fourth at the SUNYAC championship meet and the women were seventh to add points for the Hawks.
Oneonta men's wrestling team tied for first at the 2025 league championship meet. The men's and women's track and field teams both finished second at the SUNYAC indoor track and field championship meet this season. The women's swimming and diving team was fifth while the men were sixth at the conference championship meet. Both men's and women's basketball squads advanced to postseason play as the sixth seed to earn points for the Oneonta Red Dragons.
Oswego is fourth in the standings followed by Plattsburgh, Buffalo State, Fredonia, Morrisville, Canton and Potsdam.
The final SUNYAC Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup standings will be released in May after the 2025 spring championships.
The Commissioner's Cup point system is determined by the 20 different conference sports in the fall, winter, and spring. A 10-point system is used in each sport. The first-place team gets 10 points, the second-place team gets 9 points, and so on. A team's regular-season finish will be added to their post-season finish and divided by two for their final total for that sport. The total number of points that a school accumulates is divided by the number of conference sports it has. This school total determines the overall winner at the end of the school year.
