SUNYAC Baseball Teams Appear in ABCA Poll

 

SUNYAC baseball has made the most of their opportunities to play this spring in-between the rain showers and doing so in a competitive fashion to earn several rankings. In the latest American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate BaseballNCAA Division III Baseball Poll Cortland is ranked No. 8 and Oneonta and Brockport are among schools also receiving votes. Cortland (27-6, 14-1) is ranked fourth in the nation with 9.1 strikeouts per nine innings, behind Aaron Schuldt who has totaled 65 to lead the Red Dragons pitching staff. Matt June leads the team with 48 hits while averaging one run scored per game. Cortland has won its last nine games and earned the right to host the four-team conference tournament May 6-8. 
 
SUNY Oneonta (20-11, 11-4) currently ranks 13th in the nation for earned run average (2.73) and 15th in triples (15). Kevin Knack has hit six of those triples to rank seventh in Division and stands second on the team with a .336 average. On the mound Joshua Herzenberg is 5-1 in eight appearances with 32 strikeouts.
 
The Brockport Golden Eagles (19-9, 8-5) are led by Kyle Smith with a 1.49 ERA, which ranks 33rd in Division III. Smith is 7-1 on the mound with five complete games, 62 strikeouts and just seven walks. Jake Coleman is batting .394 with 26 hits, while his on-base percentage of .554 ranks 12th in the nation. As a team, Brockport ranks 10th in fielding percentage 0.97 and 13th in hit allowed per nine innings (7.8).
