Baseball Year-end Awards and All-Conference

State University of New York Athletic Conference Commissioner, Pat Damore, has announced the 2011 Baseball year-ending awards and All-Conference team in the sport of baseball. SUNY Oneonta took the Player of the Year, New Paltz garnered the Pitcher of the Year and The College at Brockport had the Coach of the Year and Rookie of the Year. All awards are voted on by the conference coaches.

Oneonta junior shortstop Kevin Knack (Ghent, NY/Ichabod Crane) was named the Bob Wallace Player of the Year. Knack is the first Red Dragon player in to be selected for the honor. Knack was also selected to the All-Conference first team for the season after leading the Red Dragons in hitting this season with his .348 average including a .368 average in conference play. He led the team in hits (54), triples (6), RBIs (22), total bases (75), stolen bases (12), on-base percentage (.400) and slugging percentage (.484). Oneonta finished third in the conference

New Paltz sophomore Chris Chismar (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) was named the Don Axtell Pitcher of the Year. Chismar finished the season with a 2.64 earned run average, making 10 visits to the mound for a 6-4 record. Six of his appearances came against conference competition, where he threw four complete games with a 4-2 record and two shutouts. Chismar was a key factor in the Hawks making their first SUNYAC tournament appearance since 2001 when he posted a 3-2 win over Cortland to help secure the No. 4 seed. It was the first win over the Red Dragons since 1995. This spring Chismar allowed only 38 hits in 61.1 innings and held opponents to a .176 batting average. He led all conference teams with 78 strikeouts (48 in SUNYAC play) to earn first-team all-conference honors.

Freshman Kyle Tracy (Plainview, NY/Bethpage) became the fourth Golden Eagle in 10 years to win the SUNYAC's Clark V. Whited Rookie of the Year award and the first since 2006. Tracy, an outfielder, made 30 appearances and 24 starts as he finished the season with a .341 batting average (28-for-82). He hit one home run and drove in 11 runs while smacking six doubles and slugging .451, the second-best mark for the Golden Eagles.

After guiding Brockport (27-12 overall, 13-5 SUNYAC) to the SUNYAC championship series and a second-place finish in the regular season, fourth-year head coach Justin Beach was named the Walter Nitardy Coach of the Year. The Golden Eagles made their tenth consecutive appearance in the SUNYAC tournament and fourth straight in the championship game. The 27 wins is the most in a season for Beach as he has coached his team to 20-plus win seasons each year. He becomes the fourth Golden Eagle head baseball coach to earn the honor, and the first since 2000.
