Futia and Liss Earn SUNYAC Men's Wrestling Weekly Awards
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC picks Cortland's Rocco Futia as its Men's Wrestler of the Week and RIT's Lawrence Liss as its Men's Wrestling Rookie of the Week after the second week of competition in the 2024-25 season.
Futia won the 133-pound weight class title at the Ursinus College Racich Rumble. He finished 5-0 at the 14-school tournament, starting with pins in his first three matches. Futia rallied from an early 7-0 deficit to win, 19-15, in the semifinals, and he trailed 9-8 in the finals before recording a takedown with 17 seconds left in an eventual 11-10 victory.
Liss placed third in the Freshman/Sophomore Division at the Bob Del Rosa Ohio Open, Sunday. Liss beat Devion Coffin with fall at 4:04 in his opening bout. He defeated Caleb Scott (Cleveland State) 7-6 before a 14-1 loss to Tanner Tishner in the semifinals. Liss picked up an 8-4 decision over Jacob Braun in the third-place match.
