
2025 SUNYAC Men's Wrestling Honors Announced
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC announces its 2025 Men's Co-Wrestler of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coaching Staff of the Year. These awards are nominated and voted on by the conference coaches.
Co-Wrestler of the Year – Angelo Centrone, Cortland
Centrone was the NCAA Division III runner-up at 149 pounds earning All-American status. He finished the 2024-25 season with a 30-1 record, with his lone loss coming in the national championship match. Centrone was the 149-pound champion and Most Outstanding Wrestler at the NCAA Division III Region 2 championships. He was the SUNYAC champion at 149 pounds and he was named the SUNYAC Championship Most Outstanding Wrestler. Centrone helped Cortland win its share of the SUNYAC team title. The squad tied with Oneonta, totaling 141 points each.
Co-Wrestler of the Year – Josh Harkless, Rochester Institute of Technology
Harkless finished third at the NCAA Division III championships at 285 pounds earning him All-American honors for the second time in his career. His only loss on the season was at the NCAA championships to the eventual champion. Harkless lost in triple overtime on a one-second ride time differential. He did not surrender an offensive point all season. Harkless finished the 2024-25 season with a 33-1 record. He totaled 22 pins and 16 wins over athletes in the top 20 rankings this year. Harkless also had wins over 10 wrestlers represented at the NCAA championships.
Wrestling Rookie of the Year - Tomah Gummow, Ithaca College
Gummow posted a 35-14 record during his first year of collegiate competition. He totaled 14 major decisions, six tech falls and four pins. Gummow highlighted the Bombers performances at the SUNYAC championships where he was seeded second to begin and ended up placing first at 125 pounds, defeating RIT's Jacob Deysher along the way to a 13-2 major decision. He also punched his ticket as a national qualifier with a third-place finish at the NCAA Division III Region II qualifier. He won his third-place bout over Centenary's Jack Thode defeating him in a 4-1 decision. At the NCAA championships, he posted a 2-2 record, which included wins over Augsburg's Wyatt Kaczrowski and defeating Connor Fiser of Loras in a 4-2 decision.
Coaching Staff of the Year – Oneonta
Duane Ritter is the head coach of the Oneonta men's wrestling team. He is assisted by Nate Leonard, Tyler Brazinski and Anthony Romero. The staff led their squad to the program's first SUNYAC championship team title in 2025. The Oneonta Red Dragons finished tied for first place with Cortland at 141 points. Seven athletes finished in the top three of their weight class while four were named to the All-SUNYAC team. The team went on to win the New York State Collegiate championship team title and finished tied for 21st at the NCAA Division III championship. The coaching staff tied the program record for most dual wins in a single season (16) and finished the regular season nationally ranked 8th in tournament play by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA). This season, Ritter, Leonard, Brazinski and Romero coached an All-American, two NCAA region qualifiers and 10 wrestlers that finished the regular season ranked regionally in their respective weight class.
