Women's Soccer Award Winners Named; Monnier, Margolis and Bruley receive honors

2011 All-Conference

The State University of New York Athletic Conference has announced the All Conference Teams along with the Coach of the Year, Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year awards for the 2011 women’s soccer season. The awards are voted on by the conference coaches.

Cortland State graduate student Pam Monnier (East Northport, NY/Northport) has been named the Women’s Soccer Player of the Year. Monnier, a four-time All-SUNYAC first team selection, led the Red Dragons to a current 12-5-2 overall record and a trip to the SUNYAC finals as the number seed. Despite losing in the conference tournament, Cortland will play in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1998 after earning a Pool “C” bid. Monnier has started all 19 games with a 0.70 goals against average, an .831 save percentage and eight solo shutouts, and she has combined with teammates on three other shutouts. She is the first Red Dragon to be selected the Player of Year since 1995 when Janet Urban was recognized.

Cortland’s Amanda Margolis (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) has been selected as the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year. She is the fourth Red Dragon player to receive the award since its inception in 1998. Cortland won the honor in 1999, 2003 and 2005. Margolis has played in all 19 games, making eight starts. She leads the team with 24 points on eight goals and eight assists.

SUNY New Paltz head coach Colleen Bruley has been named Coach of the Year. In her 15th season, she guided her team to the SUNYAC Championship title for the first time ever in program history edging Cortland, 1-0. The Championship win marked Bruley’s 100th career-win. The Hawks are 13-5-2 and will make their first-ever NCAA appearance Nov. 12 against Lynchburg in the first round. The 13 wins is a new single season record for New Paltz women’s soccer.  This is the second time Bruley has won Coach of the Year honors, previously earning recognition in 2004.
