Geneseo Women's Soccer Falls To Trinity On Penalty Kicks

HARTFORD, C.T. - The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team had their season come to an end in heartbreaking fashion on Saturday afternoon, as they fell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Trinity on penalty kicks.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Geneseo's defense held strong in the opening half, rejecting nine shots and keeping the game tied at 0-0. Senior goalkeeper Angel Bennett picked up five saves in the half.
  • Senior forward Lindsay Wright put Geneseo in the lead in the 52nd minute, beating the defense and drilling a shot into the upper right corner past the goalkeeper.
  • The Bantam's were able to answer the Knights goal five minutes later off a penalty kick, and the game was sent to overtime.
  • The Knights were out-shot 9-0 in the two overtime periods, but Bennett and the defense forced the game into penalty kicks. Geneseo was unable to come out on top in the shootout and fell 3-2, with Dana Schoeps and Lindsey Matthews scoring for the Knights.
