SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC has chosen Nora Fitzgerald from Plattsburgh as this week's Women's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week and Maddie Franklin from New Paltz the Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Fitzgerald was instrumental in two Cardinal wins last week, as the junior defender/forward was all over the field. She picked up the game-winning goal against Oneonta on Wednesday, with her first career penalty kick for the score. She also assisted on the second goal in the Fredonia win, finding her teammate for the game-sealing goal.
Franklin made six saves against Cortland, three on diving attempts, one of which came in the first two minutes of the match parrying away a shot intended for the top right corner of goal. The two goals scored were well placed shots by the Red Dragons, upper 90, and on a bending corner. Against Brockport, Franklin stepped up to make a career-high 11 saves to keep the Hawks shutout and aid in the 2-0 win on the road.
