Geneseo Women's Soccer Heads To Trinity For NCAA Tournament First Round

GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team will travel to Trinity (CT) to face the Bantams in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament this Saturday, Nov. 12 as the 64-team field was announced Monday afternoon.

The Knights (11-4-3) defeated Cortland in penalties, 1-1 (4-3), last Saturday to clinch their 10th overall State University of New York Athletic Conference Championship (SUNYAC) Championship and an automatic bid to the 10th NCAA Tournament in program history.

Geneseo is making its fifth-consecutive NCAA appearance after defeating Connecticut College, 2-1, in the NCAA Tournament First Round and falling to Scranton, 1-0, in the second round a year ago. The Knights received an at-large bid in 2019 and falling to Mary Washington, 3-0, in Geneva, N.Y. The Knights also suffered a first-round defeat in 2018, but advanced to the third round in 2017. Chosen as a host institution for the first and second round of the NCAA Tournament, Geneseo picked up overtime victories against Penn State-Berks, 2-1, and Misericordia, 1-0, to advance to the Round of 16.

Geneseo has qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 1992, 1993, 1994, 2009, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021. The Knights hold a 4-8-4 record in NCAA Tournament play and have advanced on penalty kicks in three out of the four draws. The squad has reached the third round of the NCAA Tournament three times in program history, and advanced to the NCAA Semifinals in 1994.

Trinity finished the season with a 7-4-6 mark and fell in the semifinals of the NESCAC tournament after defeating Middlebury 2-1 in the quarterfinals.

The winner of Trinity and Geneseo will take on the winner of Johns Hopkins and Lesley.
