SUNYAC Announces 2022 Women's Soccer Top Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC has announced its 2022 women's socccer All-Conference teams and annual awards including Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coaching Staff of the Year as voted on by the conference coaches.

Offensive Player of the Year - Jaden Galluzzo, Cortland
Galluzzo leads the league with 15 goals, 35 points and six game-winning goals overall. She helped her team to a top-seed regular season finish with an 8-0-1 conference record. The Red Dragons fell to Geneseo in the SUNYAC championship, but as the No. 3 ranked team in Region III, they earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament. Cortland will host a four-team regional, November 12-13 and will face Wesleyan University in a first-round game, Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Defensive Player of the Year - Bryn Thompson, Cortland
Thompson is part of a defense that has allowed just eight goals in 18 games (0.43 goals against average) and tallied 11 shutouts so far this season. After an upset to Geneseo on a penalty-kick shootout in the SUNYAC final, Thompson is able to continue her senior season as the Red Dragons, ranked No. 3 in the region, earned an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament.

Rookie of the Year - Brooke Kelleher, New Paltz
Kelleher finished her first season at New Paltz with seven goals and two assists for 16 points. She had two game-winning goals, both in conference competition. Kelleher had three goals in postseason play to help lead her team to the SUNYAC semifinals as the No. 3 seed. The Hawks ended the season 11-4-2 overall.

Coaching Staff of the Year - New Paltz
Head coach Mike Eckberg and staff, assistance coach Laura Morcone and Samantha Trimblett led the Hawks to the SUNYAC semifinals in 2022. New Paltz finished the regluar season ranked No. 3 in the league with a 6-2-1 conference record. The team beat Brockport, 5-2, in the first round of the SUNYAC tournament, but fell to No. 2 Geneseo, 3-2, in the semifinals to finish the season 11-4-2 overall. The staff had six athletes named to the All-Conference team including the Rookie of the Year, Kelleher.
