Plattsburgh's Girma and Zophy Earn SUNYAC Women's Volleyball Weekly Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC has selected Plattsburgh teammates Liya Girma and Payton Zophy as this week's Women's Volleyball Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week.

Girma averaged 3.80 kills per set and hit .341 (38-10-82) for the weekend, helping Plattsburgh State go 3-0 at the North Country Classic and up its record to 7-2--its best start to a season since 1991. She floored 11 kills in a 3-0 victory over Hilbert College on Friday before landing a career-high 18 kills in a 3-2 win over host SUNY Canton and recording nine kills in a 3-0 triumph over Wells College on Saturday. For the season, Girma ranks fourth in the SUNYAC in kills per set (2.97).

Zophy maintained her SUNYAC lead in digs per set (5.26), helping Plattsburgh State go 3-0 at the North Country Classic and up its record to 7-2--its best start to a season since 1991. She also fashioned a .981 reception percentage, committing just one reception error in 54 total attempts. Zophy defended 20 digs in a 3-0 win over Hilbert College on Friday before notching 22 digs in a 3-2 victory over host SUNY Canton and tallying 16 digs in a 3-0 triumph over Wells College on Saturday.
