POTSDAM, N.Y.—Six SUNY Potsdam male student-athletes have been named to the College Sports Communicators At-Large Academic All-District Team. The teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the playing field and in the classroom. The at-large category includes multiple sports. Men's hockey players Josh Bifolchi (Ottawa, Ontario/Mississauga Chargers), Mason Hoehn (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Richmond Generals) and Drew Rose (Brasher Falls, N.Y./Utica Jr. Comets), who also plays for men's lacrosse team, along with men's lacrosse players Alex Farben-Griggs (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) and Tyler Gould (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) join men's volleyball player Michael Anderson (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) to claim Potsdam's six spots.
To be eligible for a nomination, athletes need to maintain at least a 3.5 GPA, be a sophomore and have participated in at least 90 percent of their team's contests or started in 66 percent.
Bifolchi, a forward, played in all 26 games this season, registering a goal and an assist. In three seasons, the assistant captain had eight goals and five assists for 13 points in 71 career games. Bifolchi is also a member of the track and field team, winning the SUNYAC javelin title in all four of his years and claiming Academic All-District honors for that sport as well.
Hoehn, also a forward, was second on the team in scoring with nine goals and seven assists for 16 points, while playing in every game. In two seasons, the sophomore assistant captain has 25 points on 12 goals and 13 assists in 49 games.
Rose captained the hockey team while playing defense and was a standout midfielder for the lacrosse team this year. On the ice, the junior captain played in every game and was fifth in scoring with two goals and eight assists for 10 points. He has 10 goals and 20 assists for 30 points in 70 hockey contests in three years. On the turf, Rose was fourth in scoring with a career-high 40 points on 24 goals and 16 assists. He has compiled 90 points in three seasons on 58 goals and 32 assists. He also has 49 ground balls and eight caused turnovers.
Farben-Griggs, a sophomore defender, played in 15 games with 11 starts this season. He picked up 27 ground balls and caused eight turnovers. In his two seasons, he has 29 ground balls, eight caused turnovers and an assist in 23 games with 12 starts.
Gould, a sophomore midfielder, had a personal best 19 points on 14 goals and five assists, while playing in all 16 games. He has 28 points on 21 goals and seven assists in 30 career games along with 29 ground balls and five caused turnovers.
Anderson, a captain and senior setter, led the Bears and was sixth in the New England Volleyball Conference with 467 assists. He also recorded 19 kills, 11 service aces and 106 digs. Anderson is third all-time with 630 assists. He was named to the NEVC's Sportsmanship Team in April. He is also a member of the Bears track and field team, claiming Academic All-District honors for that sport as well.
