
Belgrave, Bryer, Bulger, and Lanyi Earn CSC Academic All-District Honors for Plattsburgh Men's Ice Hockey
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Men's At-Large Teams were released on Tuesday with Joshua Belgrave (Burlington, Ontario/Burlington Cougars), Paul Bryer (Clarkston, Mich./Islanders Hockey Club), Lonan Bulger (Yellowknife, Northwest Territories/Hobart College), and Jake Lanyi (North Salem, N.Y./Connecticut Jr. Rangers) of the Plattsburgh State men's ice hockey team each earning honors.
The Academic All-District At-Large teams honor NCAA sports that do not have a designated program currently. To be eligible for the ballot as an ice hockey student-athlete, nominees must have competed in 90% of the team's total games and also be at least a sophomore academically and carry a cumulative 3.50 GPA.
Belgrave carries a 3.93 GPA as a business administration major and is coming off a breakout season for the Cardinals last year. The sophomore tallied 13 goals in 28 games played, good for second on the team. He also added eight assists and was +9 on the year. He registered five multi-point performances, including a four-point night against Morrisville on Jan. 20 when he scored twice and had two assists.
Bryer graduated with a degree in marketing and business administration, holding a 3.90 cumulative GPA and finished his Plattsburgh career with a strong season. Playing in all 28 games, he tallied seven goals and 13 assists for 20 points and was +9 on the year. He was named the conference player of the week on Nov. 20 after scoring the game-winning goal against Potsdam on Nov. 17. Over the season, he also tallied three multi-point games.
Bulger is currently undeclared, but had a 4.00 in his first full year at Plattsburgh, playing in all 28 games. The sophomore defenseman tallied 14 points, posting two goals and 12 assists. He had a three-assist effort against Morrisville on Jan. 20 and also led the team with 34 blocked shots.
Lanyi is also a business administration major, carrying a 3.68 cumulative GPA and had a strong junior season as he was second the team with 16 assists. He also added three goals for a 19-point season, also posting a +13 mark on the ice. He won 52.7% of his faceoffs on the season and notched 16 blocks with the highlight of his season coming on opening night when he had three assists against Saint Anselm.
Plattsburgh State went 21-5-2 overall and 12-3-1 in league play in 2023-24, falling in the conference championship game while also finishing the season ranked eighth in the national poll.
