It's become a sort of tradition with the SUNY Potsdam softball team. 
 
For the third time over the past season, coach Shannon Dillabough and his Bears rolled up their sleeves to volunteer their time assisting with Trinity Church's community supper in the church's Parish Hall in Potsdam on Jan. 23.

The community dinner is one that the church holds every month on a Thursday for less fortunate local residents. The players and coaching staff helped set up tables, prepared some of the food, served the meals and cleaned up for 40-50 people.
 
"It was a good opportunity to us to work together as a team and give people who are less fortunate a chance to grab a warm meal," said coach Dillabough. "We enjoy it.  It was a chance to get off the field and see what our personalities are like when we are not playing softball.  You get to know each other in different ways and learn about people with different backgrounds too."

The Bears softball team will open their 2014 campaign with a doubleheader against the Lyndon State Hornets on Friday, Feb. 28, at the Adirondack Sports Complex Dome in Queensbury, N.Y. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
