2014 SUNYAC Softball Preseason Poll Released

The State University of New York State Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) softball preseason poll has arrived. All the head coaches from each SUNYAC school voted to make this list.

Accumulating 80 points, the Cortland Red Dragons are No. 1 in the preseason poll and for good reason. They are currently ranked fourth nationally in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III poll and they are coming off their best national finish in program history as national runners-up at the 2013 NCAA Division III World Series. This year they have many key returners coming back hoping to help them win the SUNYAC Championship and return to the National Championship in 2014. Cortland is led by Head Coach Julie Lenhart and all-star outfielder Diane Cork.

The Brockport Eagles come in at No. 2 in the poll with 66 points with sophomore pitcher Korey Kibling leading the way for the team. Geneseo is in third with 63 points as infielders Samantha Brown and Sam Trapasso will look to get back to the SUNYAC Championship again this year, but hope to have a different outcome. Buffalo State and Plattsburgh are numbers four and five with 53 and 51 points respectively. Buffalo State will hope to make the SUNYAC tournament this year after falling just short last year.

Oswego State comes in at No. 6 with 40 points. After just squeezing into the SUNYAC Tournament last year the Lakers hope to make more of a splash this year in the regular season and the SUNYAC tournament. The last four teams in the preseason poll are Fredonia State, SUNY Oneonta, New Paltz and SUNY Potsdam.  This season will sure be fun to watch and see who comes out as the regular season champion and SUNYAC tournament champion as well.
