Potsdam Softball Team gets Involved in Adopt-A-Bear Program

Fifteen members of the SUNY Potsdam softball team participated in the Adopt-A-Bear program at Potsdam Elementary School on Saturday for three hours.

The Bears, who have made this a reoccurring event, took time out of their schedules again after volunteering their time this past spring.

As part of their community outreach, the girls play games, have relay races, play basketball, take part in arts and crafts such as coloring, teach and talk with elementary school-aged children.

"It's good for our girls to get out and work with the kids," said ninth-year SUNY Potsdam softball coach Shannon Dillbough.  "They can get a chance to see kids from different backgrounds.  Hopefully, they'll feel more fortunate about their situations.  Helping people out is important.  And, it's a good team bonding experience to do something besides just playing softball."

The team will be looking to lend a hand again just before their softball season starts in the spring.
