Andrew Grann Adds ECAC Weekly Honor to Award Haul

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Sophomore pitcher Andrew Grann (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) of the State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team added yet another honor for his performances during the week ending March 25, 2012, as he was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Upstate Division III Baseball Pitcher of the Week. He was also tabbed as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week for that same period.

Grann (4-1) came one out away from throwing a seven-inning no-hitter on Saturday against SUNY Plattsburgh (11-7, 4-2 SUNYAC) before allowing two singles to the host Cardinals. The Oceanside, N.Y., native still came away with the complete-game shutout win in game one of doubleheader action, issuing zero walks and striking out eight Plattsburgh batters, which matches a career-high set by Grann against the same Cardinal team last year.

Prior to that, Grann also went the distance in a seven-inning affair with Plymouth State in game two of doubleheader action in Fort Myers, Fla., on Tuesday. New Paltz (12-8, 1-2 SUNYAC) took that decision, 3-2, as Grann and his four-strikeout performance stopped a late charge from the Panthers in the bottom of the seventh, sealing the victory.

The Hawks next compete on Friday, March 30, opening play at the newly-renovated Loren Campbell Memorial Field. New Paltz hosts SUNYAC opponent The College at Brockport (12-7, 1-2 SUNYAC) at 3 p.m. that day, before taking on the Golden Eagles in doubleheader action on Saturday, March 31, starting at 12 p.m.
