SUNYAC Names Adornetto and Bardenett Baseball Athletes of the Week

 

Cortland shortstop John Adornetto and Brockport junior pitcher James Bardenett have been selected as the SUNYAC Baseball Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the week ending April 22, 2012.
 
Adornetto batted .556 (10-for-18) with two doubles, six RBI, two sacrifice flies and a sacrifice bunt during a 5-0 week for the Red Dragons. In Tuesday’s doubleheader against Oswego he scored two runs in the first game and was 3-for-5 with a double and RBI in a 13-5 victory. Against Oneonta on Friday, Adornetto drove in one run, walked once and stole a base. In the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader he went 4-for-4 with a double, three RBI and three runs scored in a 16-2 win. He extended his hitting streak to 10 games and upped his RBI count to 24. Cortland improved to 27-7-1 overall and 13-2 in the SUNYAC and captured its 16th consecutive SUNYAC regular-season title.
 
Bardenett was 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA in a pair of Brockport victories. He allowed five hits, two walks and one run in six innings with seven strikeouts in a nine-inning 10-7 win over Fredonia. He then gave up three hits and no walks, struck out five and allowed no runs in a complete game seven inning shutout against Medaille. Bardenett is 8-2 with a 2.63 ERA in 11 games, allowing just two runs in his last five starts.
