Ray Angelucci and Brian Barry Named to D3baseball.com National Team of the Week

Cortland junior pitcher Ray Angelucci (Commack) and junior outfielder Brian Barry (Smithtown/Smithtown East) have been chosen to the D3baseball.com national “Team of the Week” for the week ending April 22. The team consists of the top players for the week, by position, among all Division III schools.

Angelucci is one of three starting pitchers selected to the weekly team for the second straight week. He allowed only one hit and two walks, gave up one run and struck out eight batters in a complete-game, seven-inning 7-1 victory at Oneonta last Saturday. For the season, Angelucci is 8-1 with a 1.20 ERA in nine starts. He’s allowed just 29 hits and 18 walks and has fanned 46 batters in 52 and a third innings pitched.

Barry, one of three outfielders chosen nationally, batted .524 (11-for-21) with a triple, double, nine RBI, seven runs scored and two stolen bases in five games. He was 4-for-6 with a triple and four RBI in a 16-2 win at Oneonta and went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI in a 13-2 home win over Oswego. Barry is hitting .340 with 23 RBI, 27 runs scored and six steals in 32 games, 28 as a starter.

Cortland, ranked seventh nationally by both D3baseball.com and the ABCA, is 27-7-1 overall and 13-2 in the SUNYAC. The Red Dragons captured their 16th consecutive SUNYAC regular-season title and will host the league’s four-team postseason tournament May 4-6.
