Cortland Sweeps Weekly Softball Awards

 

Cortland junior second baseman Lucia Meola (Liverpool/Cicero-North Syracuse) and junior pitcher Morgan Kuhn (Wayland/Wayland-Cohocton) have been named the State University of the New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the period ending March 11. The awards are the first for the conference in softball this spring and cover all games played since the start of the season.

In addition, Meola and Kuhn have been tabbed as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Upstate New York Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week.

SOFTBALL PLAYER – Cortland
Lucia Meola (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-N. Syracuse), junior second base
Lucia Meola batted .483 (14-for-29) with four walks, five RBI and eight runs scored over Cortland's first eight games to start the season. She hit safely in all eight games, including two hits six times, and has an 11-game hitting streak dating back to last season. She finished 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs in a win over Mt. Union and 2-for-3 with a walk in a win against Waynesburg.

 
SOFTBALL PITCHER- Cortland
Morgan Kuhn (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton), junior
Morgan Kuhn went 2-0 with a save and a 1.91 ERA in four appearances as Cortland opened the season at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. She pitched five and two-third innings for a win versus Muskingum and earned a save by tossing two hitless innings to complete a combined no-hitter in a 7-0 win vs. Waynesburg. In her final appearance, she threw the final two and a third innings and retired all seven batters she faced as Cortland rallied for a 9-8 win vs. Aurora in eight innings.
