Lekki and Rowell Earn Softball Weekly Honors

Buffalo State senior short stop Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) and Cortland senior Lyndsay Rowell (Sandy Creek/Sandy Creek) were named the SUNYAC Player and Pitcher of the Week respectively. In addition, Lekki was honored as the ECAC Upstate Player of the Week.
Lekki led the Bengals to a 5-5 start during their spring trip to Clermont, Fla., posting a .417 (15 of 36) batting average and a .667 slugging percentage. Seven of her 15 hits went for extra bases as she had six doubles and a home run to go with seven RBIs and 11 runs scored. She also committed just one error on 46 chances at short stop.
Rowell went 2-0 with a 0.88 ERA, 16 strikeouts, one walk and 12 hits allowed in 16 innings during two road starts for the Red Dragons. She tossed a nine-inning shutout and matched her career high with nine strikeouts in a 3-0 win at Muhlenberg Friday. The next day, she fanned seven, walked none and gave up six hits over seven innings in a 6-2 win at TCNJ. Rowell is 4-3 with a 1.75 ERA and 41 hits allowed in 48 innings this spring.
