SUNYAC Announces Women's Ice Hockey Weekly Awards

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The SUNYAC selects Cortland teammates Kait Bourgeois and Molly Goergen as the Women's Ice Hockey Player and Goaltender of the Week while Canton's Riley Andzel has been named the Rookie of the Week.

Bourgeois helped lead the nationally 14th-ranked Red Dragons (4-0) to a pair of road wins last week. The defenseman tallied three points on two goals and one assist and recorded a +2 rating. In a 4-1 victory at 11th-ranked Nazareth on Tuesday, Bourgeois assisted on the game-winning goal and scored Cortland's fourth goal as the Red Dragons allowed just 19 shots on goal. On Saturday, Bourgeois netted the game-winning goal 3:50 into overtime as Cortland defeated Morrisville, 2-1, in SUNYAC action. For the season, Bourgeois has totaled seven points on two goals and five assists and has registered at least one point in all four games.

Goergen posted a 2-0 record with a 0.97 GAA, 48 saves and a .960 save percentage for nationally 14th-ranked Cortland (4-0) last week. In a 4-1 win at 11th-ranked Nazareth on Tuesday, she turned aside 18 shots. Goergen then stopped 30 shots in a 2-1 overtime victory at Morrisville on Friday.

Andzel scored the game-winning goal 11:21 into the third period to lift the Roos to a 1-0 win against Oswego State on Saturday. It was the first ever SUNYAC win for SUNY Canton and just the second ever victory for the Roos against the Lakers in program history. The goal was the second of the season for Andzel who is tied for the team lead in goals (2) and points (3) as a rookie.
